Apricot wood for sale
Hello all,
I have a deceased apricot tree - latest victim of the drought - that has to be removed. Is anyone interested in the timber? The tree is about 60 years old, 60 cm diam to a height of about 70 cm, then about 40 cm diam main trunk to a height of about 1.5 m. We are in Melbourne bayside area.

TS: you're asking the wrong question - you should ask "How much are you being charged to take it away" and then ask a little less
A couple of observations:
1) A trunk that size will weigh 200+ kg so moving it will not be easy. It would be a real pity to have to cut it in half just to move it - it might be easier to mill it on the spot. DJ - where are you?
2) The wood from fruit trees including apricot is very useful for making handles for hand tools and makes gorgeous furniture. It does not splinter easily and produces a very tactile finish.
3) If for some reason you decide to pay for it, don't agree to pay anything until you see it cut down and and can see the whole cross section. These trees are very susceptible to termites and bugs and it may be riddled with holes - which may have contributed to it's death.
4) Get it sealed on all cut cross grain surface as soon as it is cut down and milled.
5) I got a 30 cm apricot tree trunk for nothing - well I have a agreed to make a small keepsake for the person out of the timber.
Cheers

You called Bob?
Treehead, can you post some pictures of said tree? Is it down or still standing? Is there a time limit on how soon it can be removed and what access is there? Can you get a small truck or trailer right up to it.
Might be interested if I don't have to pay for it, maybe both thumbsucker and myself can come and have a look, when we are on our way somewhere else.Cheers
