Default Attaching wooden panel to carcass

    Hi,

I'm making a bathroom vanity with a HMR particle board (melamine coated) carcass to which I am going to attach wooden panels at the ends. I have made the panels from 4 pieces of Tassie Oak glued together. The panel dimensions are 500 x 540 x 19. The panels won't be attached to anything else (the top will be glass and the doors attached to the carcass).

Do I need to worry about movement of the oak panels compared to the presumably stable particle board?

ie can I simply screw or glue the panels to the board or should I do something to accommodate a bit of movement?

With this in mind, would there be any difference between gluing or screwing? eg do some glues remain a bit elastic?

    Thanks

    Tony

Attach the panels to the particle board using screws from the particle board side. the screw holes through the particle board should be slightly oversized so the screws don't engage too hard with the particle board so when the oak 'moves' it doesn't stress the particle board or the screws overly hard. Wouldn't worry about glue - just use more screws!!.
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.
