Australian red cedar
Hello,
I'm assisting my parents tidy up their property. They have lengths of Australian red cedar that may be somewhere between 15 - 20' long and of various sizes. The wood could be 30 - 40 years old. I was wanting to know approximately how much such timber would be worth and where it can be sold.
Any assistance is appreciated,

Red Cedar
Hi there,
I personaly can,t help you with pricing but there are mambers here who I am pretty sure could advise you though.
If you post some pics and also mention where you are there may be a member in the area who could come and help you some.
Usually there is a ready market for GOOD red cedar and this forum may be a good place to advetise the timber.
All the best.
Tom.

I can't help you with pricing (being rather new at this game), but I'm certainly interested in buying some.

Its hard to give a value to timber sight unseen. There are a lot of variables, how its been cut, how its been stored, how its been dried etc, etc, etc.
Someone might be able to give you a ballpark range. Some good photos would certainly help.
People on this forum regularly buy timber which is advertised for sale here, so good luck with it.

Hard to put a price on something sight unseen, its a bit like asking someone how much is my car worth and they haven't seen the car. you could get an idea from a demolition yard but the price they would quote would be a rock bottom one seeing as they want to pass it on to the user with huge mark up on the price, but at least it may give you a starting point. .
Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Pricing of furniture grade timber is quite subjective. In the case of red cedar colour, figure, length, width and thickness all play a part. Wide material is always in demand as too are large square sections. To give you some idea, I have seen cedar go anywhere from three thousand to ten thousand per cube.

Red cedar (as in true cedar) is always coverted ad as Rustnail has pointed out, even the lower grades attract relatively high prices. Even quite small pieces may be attractive to the boxmakers and pen turners.
I'd go along with the recommendations of others and post some pix. Based on that and, if you are interested you may be able to offer the timber in the marketplace on these forums, but take notice of the rules there. You have to nominate a price. An auction is not permitted here.
