Default I want to get Australian Rosewood

Hi, I am renovating my house and want to get some slabs of Australian Rosewood for fixtures and furniture. I may need a fair bit so does anyone sell it by the cubic meter? Is there a set price for this or does it vary?

    Thanks Beck

Thank you I will try emailing these places. I have found this a hard timber to get hold of, does that mean it is very expensive?

    Good guess.

We chopped most of it down for fence posts about a hundred years ago.

One or more of the suggested sources will be able help you.

Scally - any idea where the fences were built. . ??

Seriously though - was showing my english sisters around and took them to an old homestead - built 1840-ish. All the timber would (wood) have been local river red gum. Funnily enough, I remarked to my missus that the timber hadn't seemed to have decayed or rotted. Just that silvery aged look - and a few wrinkles. Recycled, would (wood) be worth a small fortune...
Now... who knows where all those fence posts were sited. . .
    Cheers

    Default aust rosewoood

    Hi Jedo

I got a couple of rose wood fence posts but it took me a few years to ,not so much find them but to get to part with them. Cost me two cartons of VB for seven posts take all or none half of them are fire wood.

    Cheers Tony

Got the table stem and legs below out of an old rosewood fencepost - had to cut out the bits very carefully to avoid the cracks and few patches of rot, but it was worth it. Still strongly scented inside despite its years of service keeping the cows in.....

A couple of cubic metres of the stuff??!!
    Good luck!

    Cheers

Most of the fenceposts around Bellingen, Dorrigo etc were Rosewood (aka Rose mahogany) and even the rottenest of them will cost you a small fortune - if you can find any! I'm lucky my old man and his mates scored a few trees so I have a bit to work with - beeeeeaaauuuutiful stuff !

    Hi Bec,

    Endeavour Timbers may have some - this is from another thread;

    as for interestin timber.

well we have Maple, Cedar, rosewood, Banksia, Vitex, a variety of Gums; River, blue, flooded, spotted, grey, ghost ( I think some of those are the same timber with different names. can someone clarify)

but if ya want something cool and interestin. how about Cooktown Ironwood, or Yellowjacket.

I'm supposed to be goin to northern Queensland n a few weeks to chop some of ths down.

    Should be fun.

Oh yeah does anyone know anything about Ironwood.

the book says that every aspect of the timber is poisonous which worries me slightly.
