Default Baltic birch plywood in Brisbane

Hello. I'm making a cajon - Peruvian drum originating in slaves using old packing crates for music - for which the playing surface needs to be of the thinnest and best quality hardwood ply, ideally Baltic birch. Does anyone know where I might source this or something similar in Brisbane? I only need a small sheet, not industrial sized material. Thanks.

If you can't source it it in Brisbane you can try Plyco in Melbourne (they deliver Australia wide). They sell a large variety so-called Handy Panels, which are 1/4 of a full sheet of plywood (about 60cm X 120cm). Check out their website at Buy Plywood, Timber, Veneer, MDF, Particleboard & Marine Ply | Plyco (eg. see https://plyco.com.au/collections/all...nt=36895701392).

Model shops used to sell it in part sheet sizes and various thicknesses, typically 300sq, 300x600, and 300 x 900, thicknesses down to 0.8mm. This was back in the days when most RC models were built by the owner, either from a kit or scratch built from plans. Nowdays most of the market is plastic ready to fly stuff that just needs minor assembly and fitting of motor and radio, but it would still be worth making enquiries. It is also used for model boats etc, and there is still a reasonable builder base there.

But, did plywood exist when South Americans had slaves?
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Thanks for the tip, I'll phone around.

The cajon evolved from packing crate drums. Top, bottom and sides are typically around 12mm hardwood ply, front and back around 4mm, with a sound hole in the back and snares pressed internally against the front playing surface, which is attached firmly most of the way up but left loose at the top for a 'slapping' sound. You sit on it to play it. Have a listen to this guy make his sound almost like a full drum kit depending on where and how he hits it. He starts playing at around 2:15.
