    Default Beech and fungus

Was watching Finding wood supplies and using a small Bench Top Planer Thicknesser - YouTube and at the 40 second mark, he says a name that I cannot hear/understand well. Has to do with the action of fungus marking the beech. I've googled valuted, bolted, salted and a few more possibilities but cannot find what he is saying. The planed piece (53 seconds) is just amazing to me and would like to find an Australian equivalent.

The term he used at 40 secs was "spalted beech".

Looked further and found some old threads on "forced spalting" that might help.

Not sure about bigger lumps of timber but I guess the same techniques could apply.
