    Hi Guys.
Does anyone know what the plant black gidgee looks like. I am in Alice springs and was going to go out back to try and find some.

I reckon Vern would be the best bloke to ask. TTIT
    His web site is here.
Have a look through his Trees & see if you can find it.
    Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

None of it round here Cliff - unfortunately. Gotta go west of Alice to find Black Gidgee (acacia pruinocarpa) but you should be able to find Georgina Gidgee (acacia georginae) in any direction - just don't eat the seeds - can kill in 5 minutes!!!. Both trees look very similar to common Gidgee which you can also find around Alice and Georgina even has the same smell in hot weather - happy hunting Jarrah!
Will need lots of close up photos of bark, leaves etc to tell them apart when you find some - and of course I'll need a timber sample to test

    Thumbs up Black Gidgee

Never seen the tree but I acquired a pen blank.

So hard I used it to turn other blanks.

    Hi Vern
I was wondering if the Geargina Gidgee was a nice timber to use, if it has nice grains or if it was black or dark.

    Thanks

No idea mate! Have never seen it but would love to have a go at some. Going by it's pedigree, it should be very similar to common Gidgee so you can bet it will be very dark to almost black in colour - and 'hard' will be a certainty I would think! If you find a gnarly enough tree you might even score some 'ringed' pieces (for US!)

Might be common Gidgee (acacia cambagei) or Georgina Gidgee could be the same colour - chocolate brownish. Can't find any samples to go by - any pics of what you found ???

Hows that! - just googled to see what I could find and found this thread!!!!
