Question Black Heart Sassafras or Sassafras

    Hay
I've learnt that Sassafras and Black Heart Sassafras have the same species name, but they look a lot different.
Is the only difference the Black stains or does Black Heart Sassafras and Sassafras have a big difference?
    Thanks

The unspalted sassafras here in Tas is known as white sassy and the stained sassy is the black heart ........the white in tree form has not had the top broken out of it and the black heart has had the top broken from the tree hence the water can get into the tree which creates the black heart........hope this helps with your question.....
