    Default Black Hearted Sassafras

Does anyone know who would sell Black Hearted Sassafras with plenty of good dark colour.

Looking for square post type stuff, about 110mm square in lengths about 20 to 30cm.
Want to make turned lidded boxes. This timber (if well coloured) really looks good when polished.

    Thanks
    Don

take extreme care when sanding that stuff. It looks great but don't breathe the dust in.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

    Default Dangerous dust

I understand that ALL wood dust in Australia has been declared cancer causing.

It's all the more reason we need to make sure we use maximum dust protection. I have a Mistral exhaust fan in the window, a dust extractor that is positioned outside so any dust that gets through goes into the garden, a Trend powered helmet and a room air cleaner hanging from the ceiling.

It is amazing how much talcum fine powder comes out of the room air cleaner filter when I clean it. I'm sure glad it's caught in the filter and not my lungs!

I have lung problems (asthma, etc) so I figure the cost of all this equipment is worth it. I think most prospective woodworkers are not aware of the true costs of setting up a woodworking hobby.
