blackbean timber
is black bean a nice timber to work with because i have got some little seadlings i grew from seeds.and how long des it take for them to grow. any info is welcome.

Your kids or grandkids might be able to use it, or you depending on how old you were when you planted them. It's a fairly slow growing tree and there's a thick layer of sapwood which means that you won't get much timber until they're at least 400 -500 mm diameter.

yep better make yourself comfy its going to be a long wait .
i have turned the stuff nice timber but it gives me the sneezes real bad , and some times a nose bleed its the only timber that has done that to me , and i was a floor sander for 13 years

Not sure about slow growing, I have one in my yard that has grown from a sapling less than 1m tall to ~10m and 200mm dia in 8 years. I was hoping for some decent timber soon, it needs to be cut down due to too much shade in the yard, but sounds like I will only get sap wood

As Texx mentioned I have heard it is quite nasty stuff to work, nosebleeds are common.
The timber itself is quite striking though, a polished black bean floor is something to see.

Hi turnerboy, this box i made from blackbean. Should wear breathing protection, really irritates the sinuses. Finishes exceptionally well.
