Blackheart Sassafras timber
Hi there
Just wondering if anyone knows where I can order some lengths of blackheart sassafras timber from? I am after cabinet making lengths (say 19mm thick), minimum 50mm wide (I can join together but prefer wide as possible) and whatever lengths you have! I live in Brisbane and have no contacts in transport, so add that to your quote too.
What's the going price per lineal metre?
Thanks!

Black Heart Sassafras
Hello Dan
Black Heart Sassafras has become somewhat more difficult to get here in Tasmania as Forestry Tasmania has taken it out of the supply chain to the millers and are tendering each log individually. This has resulted in a bit of a bidding war and prices are rising as a result.
I have a very small quantity of BH Sassy at the moment until I dismantle a further rack in late December. Send me a PM with you e-mail address and I can forward a price list.
regards
Kev M

I was in tassie about a month back and picke dup some nice peices from him at a good price.
these guys will also ship and get a government subsidy to ship meaning cost might be low.

they are close to where Tasman is and do the tenders but they have a shed full of nice peices.

You could try Grahan Naughton at Loggerheads in Gympie.

Cool, in QLD, Lazarides in Hurricane st at Banyo may have some, i was out there last week and they did have some interesting exotic stuff, watch their prices tho.
Woodworld at labrador on the Gold coast are worth a call as they have lots of stuff

Yr best bet for the sassafras is still to ask one of the tassie guys like tasman to ship u say 20 KG's worth and check it out.
Even better do yr self a favour and hop on a plane, you wuuld be able to engage strong supply with just a few days in tassie land.
Its probably worth bearing in mind that, as mentioned above by Kev, Sassafras ( Atherosperma moschatum) is probably the most in demand timber around. His supplys sound sliek agood offer.
The tender process has driven prices up and limited supply i guess so the closer u can get to a source the better.
