    Default Blackheart Sassafrass Search

    Hey folks,
I'm currently building an entertainment unit out of vic ash, and am wanting to make the drawer fronts out of a single (or if it looks right, bookmatched) piece of blackheart sassafrass so it looks almost like the front of a bandsaw box.

Being in Melbourne, it isn't a native to my neck of the woods, so I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get my hands on some?
It needs to be approx 1850 x 350 mm

I have looked on eBay and have purchased smaller amounts of it from there, but I thought I would ask the brains trust if there were other options so I could hopefully find the right piece.

    Thanks a bunch

    Gab

Misan Timber in Tassie are a forum sponsor but they had a bad storm destroy there warehouse in Burnie in late July...
It maybe worth an email to Mike 7 Sandra to ask a recommendation if they can't help you...

You could try Ken Hanson in Kallista. I know he had one board that I had my eye one. He has alot of other interesting stuff. You are sure to find something. 9755 1601 Tell him I sent you.

Or try the Woodsmith in lusher road, croydon. They have had good sized bark to bark stuff in the past as well as select boards.

They open on specific sale days now as the owner is largely retired. His son runs the business now, mainly throughout online sales but he may be willing to open by appointment.

Britton Timbers in Dandenong list it on their website so may be worth a call.

    Hi there

I have a fair bit of nice BH sassy put away, mostly boards in 25mm and 40mm thick x 100-250mm wide, some with spectacular multi-layered colours, even in musical instrument grade. I am up at Rochester which is a few hours north of Melbourne, but you are welcome to choose something from my stash if it helps. Probably have 2-300 cubic metres of various species stacked in the shed. Fiddleback, birdseye and all the rest, tucked away waiting for the right person. No drooling on my timber though, most of it has been drying for more than 10 years, some since the late 90's. PM me if you are interested.

    Cheers

    James

G'day Gab try John (0410704606) at "recycled timber and furnitiure" in Huon Valley Tassie, he has quite a lot of B.H.S, he can send up to 26 kilos and boards up to 2metres long via "startrack" he also takes Paypal payments.

He is very helpful and great to deal with, fast postage as well.

I contacted John through eBay, and BAM, he had something spot on the money so thanks heaps for the help... Will put up a photo when it arrives, and will probably do a bit of a wip on the entertainment unit...

I will still pop up to say hi to tassie timbers and drool/pick up some bits and pieces as he so generously offered.

Thanks heaps to everyone for the help!

    Cheers

    Gab

    Default Awesome news!!

    Ok,
as promised here are a couple of shots of the slab that turned up in the mail today. It was wrapped really well, and courier prices were really cheap so can really recommend John (see above posts) as he really did come through with the goods.

    It measures (approx) 470 x 2000mm

    Thanks

    Gab
