    Default Bollywood (Litsea leefeana)

    So I'm about to take possession of about 3 tonne of this particular species. The entire bole is 9m long about ⌀900 at the butt and ⌀600 at the top, I'm figuring it's a very mature tree for the species.

    The questions I have are whether anyone has experience with this species and any good and bad bits, in particular drying, warping, cracking etc. I have sanded back a small piece of it and have to say that it does finish beautifully. Any input greatly appreciated.

    Thanks pal. I've read that and it seems, on paper, to have nothing particularly radical about it.

    Now that I have more or less finished milling up the logs, I've got a question. What value does Bollywood have, if any? Any input greatly appreciated.

    Anyway, here's a couple of pics;

    Freshly cut versus cut a couple of days before. As you can see in the fresh cut there is a marked difference in the sap/heart wood. As it dries for longer the sap/heart wood become more or less indistinguishable

    The face grain is, I think, quite appealing, there is no figure to speak of whatsoever.

    I cut up a small tree a few months ago. The wood I thought was a bit plain but I didn't notice any problems with drying out. Unfortunately though, I haven't found anyone who is interested but I note your tree was quite a bit bigger. I do have a few trees here and could supply it on a regular basis but only very limited quantities. The tree is also quite slow growing.
    I think its Bollygum. I think the Bollywood is a word from somewhere else!!

    Visually there is no figure in the wood. The face grain at the base of the bole is really quite straight, further up where the limbs start to impact on the grain, it gets quite a bit more appealing.

    Yeah Bob, it was pretty big. The broadest boards from the base are about 1m across.

    There are a few trees / shrubs that have the name Bollywood;

    Litsea leefeana, Litsea glutinosa, Litsea reticulata, Litsea bindoniana, Neolitsea australiensis, Cinnamonium baileyanum. Family: Lauraceae https://www.business.qld.gov.au/indu...bers/bollywood

    I'd also be fairly sure that Bollywood was called Bollywood before Bollywood was nicknamed after Hollywood
