Boonaree
Ok, so I haven't had much shed time I'm the last month or so - but I managed to skip out to a sawmill on Saturday to score a few gems. This guy was liquidating stock he had been building up for 30 years - and not only was the selection second to none in Australia, but it was (relatively) dirt cheap!
This was my diamond of the day. Birdseye boonaree. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do with it yet, but a bit of resin and I reckon I'll get a couple if great sized bowls blanks or a few boxes or something out if it -. I'll be coring where I can and saving every chip as it's bloody beautiful
About 800 X 300 X 90 mm all up.....
I reckon it'll sit in the shed a few years before inspiration hits though. I haven't seen anything like this (not that I've seen a lot) but thought it was interesting enough to share
Cheers all
Gab

Now that is a really spectacular bit of wood. Take your time to work out what to get out of it, be it bowls, boxes or feature lids on boxes. I can see a pen blank or two hiding in there as well!
Have fun working out your plan of attack.
Alan...

Uncle Al, I reckon the beauty would be lost in a pen blank - not to say I won't be trying when I have started cutting it up.
Neil, when it comes time, I may need to call on your expertise as I will only get 1 shot at it - and you may even get the scraps
Cava, have a look on Instagram - Pete McCurley is his name 'curlytimbers' on Instagram....but be warned....his timber will leave you in awe and without much of a life savings account left. He supplies a lot if instrument makers and knife makes. He is an awesome fellow . I have filled my ute a few times at his place and hope to in the future again"All the gear and no idea"

Bloody spectacular Gab. I haven't seen Pete in years but have bought some of his fine woods and even done an inland trip with him quite a few years ago.
He does indeed find and offer spectacular woods. I heard he was having a sale but couldn't get there.
Save me a bit would you? Euge (yeh I know, join the queue)

Interesting. Some of the other timbers in the background of photo 2 look good too.
Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.
