Borer Eviction
So I've been doing a bit of milling today and as is often the case the borers have moved in. On the back of a past thread about what to do to get rid of them, I thought I'd try something different.
I went to the pharmacy and got a selection of syringes and needles from 18G to 27G. In the case below I filled one of the 18G syringes with a generic surface spray.

Seriously, I wasn't really expecting much, how wrong was I. This is a ripper method, they absolutely cannot get out of the wood fast enough, beetles or grubs. I reckon between the carnage of milling the wood and this method there will be little to none left, I'm not saying I got them all but I reckon it'd be close.
This is now my go to method for borer eviction.

The RSCPA only covers cuddly animals, doesn't it?

LOL
Just on the off chance that PETA read the OP, I'd like to add the following;
All maggots were thoroughly washed with expensive bottled mineral water, dried off with fresh towels and then placed in a nice cuddly wuddly blankey. In general they were treated with higher regard than would ordinarily be afforded to the average human.

No ride in the big white water-slide?

When you say "generic surface spray" is this one that can be bought concentrated and then mixed as a liquid? Our club has some wooden trestle tables which get stored for 12 months at a time and some little critters have started to move in which we need to get rid of.

I just used a Coles brand 3 in 1 surface spray. Cheap and nasty.
The only real criteria, I suppose, is that the viscosity of the mix has to be as close to water as you can get it. This guarantees passage through the needle as well as being able to see quickly and easily that the holes are being filled up.
I have noted that some brands say not to dilute their mix, probably a bit of BS there, and also that they may stain unsealed timber.
Obviously there are many many types of insecticide out there and some of them are seriously not good for humans just as much as bugs so be mindful about what you're using and how you use it.

I forgot to mention that few pharmacies carry syringes beyond ultra fine insulin needles, which are no good, they're too fine.
If you're struggling go to your local VET.

Depending on the size of the article you're trying to 'de-borer 'this might work for you.
Some years ago I noticed borers in an antique spinning wheel I'd purchased for 3.00 at a garage sale. I put the whole thing in a large garbage bag and sprayed in a good cloud of insecticide and sealed the bag and left it in the garage for several weeks. No more borers. I touched up the little white holes in the wood with artists' oil paints which I mixed with turps and exactly matched to the surface colour of the wood. Very pleased with the result.
