Borers
Does anyone know anything about wood borers?
I have a lovely timber table that's was made near Cairns. The table has tree branches as legs and one end seems to have something drilling into it. There is a find layer of dust coming out of various tiny holes in the timber. It's only effected one leg, but I would like to kill them off.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Good ol Qld Borer, little bugg_rs, the dust is from the grub as it exits the wood as the adult beetle. As it is inside just let off some insect bomb cans, then repeat again in a week to catch any new hatchlings. You should do the whole house, it will help with cockcroaches too.

Thanks dad sensei
It's an outside table so insect bombs wouldn't work. Does it need to soak into the wood? Could I use something else?

You could always wrap it in a plastic bag of some sort, or put it in a small room somewhere

Go to the hardware store and get any of the off the shelf termite sprays - the concentrate not the premixed stuff. Look for serious ingredients like Lorsban if you can find it, however a permethrin base will do.
mix a strong brew and spray, Wet it down to the point of runoff, and try and fill those holes with juice.
let it go a few weeks and hit it again.
problem solved
