    Default Boring Beetles

Hi, I have just discovered boring insects in the hardwood posts around my deck yesterday.

I've done a bit of research online, however cannot seem to identify the culprit, or any solutions to controlling them.

There were about a dozen beetles feasting on the hardwood posts, mostly concentrating around the cracks. One had made a hole about 3-4cm deep!

The insects are very cylindrical in shape, a bit smaller than 1cm long, and have an angular 'cut-off' appearance to their tail.

The house has just been built so the wood could possibly be quite new still.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your deck posts, maybe these are the culprits: Powderpost beetles in Queensland timber

Flood the area with Mineral Turps or Kerosene - the stinkier the better. That will either kill them on contact or suffocate them with the fumes - just don't smoke nearby for a while
