    Default Brisbane suppliers

I want to build a solid body electric guitar.
Any suggestions on an appropriate Australian timber and where abouts I would find anything suitable in Brisabane/Gold Coast area?

Default Timber supplies for guitar building in Brisbane

There's a few sources around Brisbane. Try Moxons or Watts woods on the south side of Brisbane. They'll have the imports such as american rock maple, american walnut and some exotic species. Lazaridies on the north side of town also has these but will probably be more $$$. You can probably get some brazillian mahogany at some of these places, but this has more than doubled in price recently so may be a bit too $$$. The rock maple / brazillian mahogany is a good combination sound wise & is hard to beat.
RE Australian timbers - there are a few which are suitable - but be careful, even in a solid body the timber choice can make a big difference to the sound. Tassie blackwood is good, and you can occasionally get good figured pieces. Some say tassie oak is okay but I haven't tried it yet. Personally I'd stick to the traditional timbers for your first couple of guitars. Its terribly frustrating to go to all that effort to get it finished and have it not sound so good.
For acoustic guitar supplies I'd suggest Gilet guitars in Sydney - who do a mail order business.
