Thread: Bugeroo

Budgeroo is certainly a nice timber and turns well. Well known Queensland woodturner, Bruce Bell at Withcott, used it extensively.

Pity it is getting burnt.

Burnt . Reminds me of the rows of piled up Gidgee ready to burn years ago.

Did you offer to reduce the pile for them?

Lovely timber for finials & fine spindle work. Shocking to see such a waste of natural resources and ones we are not "entitled' to collect. Unfortunately we had a similar event many years back with clearing for orchards & vineyards near Charters Towers. A lot of very worthwhile timber was/is lost all because owners are worried about being mucked about by "amateurs" and their potential liability for the safety of those entering onto their land.

It is a pity we cannot come up with some sort of "free cycle" register of cleared timber or timbers about to be cleared so we can recover some of these resources. Thankfully we have gents like MapleMan who recover some of these overlooked and undervalued treasures.

If you want some you're better off just grabbing it and doing a runner! I tried to talk to the council there a few years ago about dropping a couple of the dead ones in the camping area You'd think I'd just shot their grandmothers!!! According to them it's an endemic species (and I'm quite sure they don't actually know the meaning of the word!) and as such it cannot be milled, burnt or even removed from the district - wa^kers!!!! I argued with them for a while but soon realised they didn't have a clue and gave up. A cocky just a few k's west cleaned up his fenceline a couple of years later and a couple of blokes from Rocky and myself loaded the utes with nice clean, freshly felled stuff instead. Bl00dy pen-pushers Grumble, grumble, grumble!

I hear you! You should have seen the hoops we had to go through for felling and clearing a site a few kms from Wallaman Falls many years ago. Almost 2 years of paperwork for an 80 x 80 site then we were allowed to clear only minimum req'd. Cocky cleared site & said to hell with it and dropped the lot. We copped it from the environment guys for his eagerness but the 20 m wide fire break he cleared for miles along fence lines was permissable. Then the power boys cleared for the new power line to the site and a new 132kv power transmission line was built about 1 km west. In the after aerial images our site was barely distinguishable compared to the rest.

There really needs to be some sort of rural / urban salvage co-ordination so we don't lose valuable & irreplaceable resources.

Exactly right ...i picked up a couple of truck loads last week with more coming today,a lot of the billets are over 1.2m wide...all of it was going to landfill ,even the Silky Oak ...MM

Don't they believe in recycling. As someone said *anchors.
Our local council/shire notifies our Club, that some trees are being trimmed/felled if we want them
