Bunnings Price Match on TIMBER??? Why not!
Has anyone tried to price match Bunnings cheapest price guarantee on Timber. Previously I'd just assumed that it would not apply to timber - I don't know why?
But looking at their advertisements they say as follows:
Lowest Prices Guarantee
If you happen to find a cheaper price on a stocked item, We'll beat it by 10%*. *Excludes trade quotations, stock liquidations and commercial quantities.Shelf prices may be lower than advertised to ensure lowest prices everyday. [Copied from http://www.bunnings.com.au/site/awde...9&depnum=8575]
Timber is a stocked item - but it doesn't have a model or part number. I'm always kicking myself, when I see the same board at half the price somewhere else.
What do you think?

Sure can and have done so...
Yes, I have done exactly that. The trade desk rang the competing store to confirm the prices and promptly matched the price for me. No $ advantage but saved my travel time as I'm only 2 blocks from a local Bunnies.

I've done it sucessfully on a number of occasions. They have honoured the extra 10% off also.

Same here, had a Mitre 10 catalogue with their price in hand and no problems.

My brother got a quote from Bunnies for timber for his decking. Approx $1,600. Went around the corner to a timber yard who quoted him $900:eek:. Ended up getting the goods for Bunnies for $810 - almost half the price!!!

Why not just get it from the little guy for the right price in the first place?
You'll get better service, better quality and help out a local instead of a multi-national corperation.
Being a keen wood hunter/carpenter would be very boring if the only place you could buy timber was Bunnings..........food for thought?

This has been done before, but, Bunnies are predators, they prey on the smaller guy.
If everyone went to Bunnies to get the 10% off, there will in time, be no smaller guy.
Then What??

I tried in but with no success in Brisbane. However with the saving I made buying directly from a Sawmill, it's worth driving a little way. Bunnings has 290x19 pine for $10.86/m, I can get it for $4.90/m. I tried to get Bunnings to price match but they wouldn't do it.

Price matching should be banned. Effectively the company is saying "we are going to rip you off unless you catch us out and give proof. Then we'll stick it to our competition to put them out of business so we can go back to ripping you off"
Whatever happened to just providing service and value?

I haven't read that much into it but I do want to support the little guys.
Sometimes I'm pressed for time on a job and just go for the convenience factor and head for bunnies. The convenience is a factor as Bunnies opens the longest. My day job is in IT and Bunnies opens til late during week days and opens on weekends.
Where as most of the little guys close either at 5 pm or earlier on weekdays and weekends are a write off.
I do go for specific smaller suppliers when I have a specific timber.
However, bunnies' range in hardwood is exceedingly limited.Advice is like snow, the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind... (S. T. Coleridge)

What would happen is that if when the little guys went out of business, then Bunnings would drop their price matching and begin to hike the RRPs. Then more entrepeneurial little guys would see the opportunity and then set-up shop and start to kill Bunnies.
Overall, the winner would be the consumer.Bodgy
