Default Bunya Pine

I had a look at some pine today,
a few big ones.jpglots of branches.jpgother.jpgother bark.jpg
This all came from the drive into the gardens here in Rocky, they fell over in the cyclone, there's a few big ones amongst them but to my eye there's a few too many branches to get nice clean boards out of them, this seems to be typical for this species, What would the main use have been in the past for this wood? Do they hang onto their knots? There were also some smaller but clean logs of a species that eludes me for the moment?

The QLD Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has good information on Bunya Pine (Hoop Pine).

According to Wiki they are two different species:
Bunya Pina is Araucaria bidwillii

and Hoop Pine is Araucaria cunninghamii

I got hold of some Bunya Pine after the big storm back in November last year. Green turned most of it as bowls. Some minor cracking in the knots as it is drying but they are still solid in the timber.
I don't suffer from stress, but I have been told I'm a carrier

Default Tone wood

Bunya is sought after by the makers of musical instruments for its tonal qualities. Quarter sawn x 100mm thick or thicker for mandolins.
It however does blue stain, so dry under cover for several years, or sell thick and green to customers and let them dry

other logs in picture from Slash or radiata pine Council is thinking about maybe putting them all out to tender. Thinking other things too as one would expect of a council trying to get the best value for their ratepayers.
