Where can I buy Bow Woods?
Hi all, I'm trying to find somewhere in WA (as close to Perth as possible) that sells woods like Osage Orange, Yew and Oak which can be used to make bows. Does anybody have any advice?
Thanks.

Not sure what is available in the west but osage sometimes turns up in Vic and NSW. Not usually for sale but word of mouth in bow making circles. Oak is a lot more common so get to know some tree loppers. One lopper told me they put yew through the shredder. I almost cried. I only ever got yew billets sent from Canada as they are very rare here. The good news is there are some oz woods like spotted gum, iron bark and black wattle that will make bows and there will be others too. Have a look at the this http://www.ozbow.net/ozbow_v2_001.htm
sign up and talk to them. Any bow wood around some of them will know of it.
Regards
John

I am informed that link to ozbow did not work so I,ll try again. It is the place to ask bow making questions.
Ozbow - Australian Traditional Bowhunting Forums.
On that forum check traditional tackle and traditional crafts.

how long can you wait?
My osage orange plantation is going into its second year, I figure about15 more before I can get any staves. They are down at Bridgetown. Plenty of oak down there, you may find some.
Anyone tried using WA peppermint (agonis) to make a bow?

I have a quantity of Jitta (Halfordia sp.) which I am advised is a superb timber for bows, though I actually cut it originally for pool cues and it's just kind of laid around in the shed ever since. If you're interested in paying the freight I'll give you a piece to play with, just let me know what size you'd need and pm me

Yellow Box?
Many years ago, I bought a beautiful longbow from Cliff Turpin of Turbows. He uses Acacia and Spotted Gum these days, but I'm pretty sure the one I have was Yellow-box. I have taken good care of mine, and it is still going strong

Google Molinger bows, I can't remember his name but is a bowyer in Perth. He might sell you a stave or point you in the right direction.
