Where to buy figured woods
Hi all
Lately I've been getting wood envy. I keep seeing beautiful figured woods on the forum such as qld walnut, maple and blackwood. There is also a thread in the musical section with some great looking flamed maple.
So my question is, where do you get it from? I understand it will be more expensive but I can't resist anymore. I just have to have some.
Thanks for any help,
Andy

Well for me, two of our members supply fine timber, Mapleman and Greg Ward. Misan Timbers are also a member, but I have not brought from them.

Keep your eyes peeled, where ever you go. Don't discount a board or slab just because it's weathered or covered in dust or at the bottom of a pile. Always check out the timber if you are in a timber place, eg I keep my eye out for pitch pocket pine and birdseye pine - yep I'm talking about crapiata - from bunnies because I think it looks great when matched with a good design and because I'm (slowly) fitting out my laundry with this theme.
I get quite a bit of figured timber from the woodshows, but most of it comes from links or contacts through here. Oh and there is nothing to stop you buying bookmatched figured boards for musical instruments and using the boards for somethiing else.Box Challenge 2011 - Check out the amazing Boxes!
