where can i buy a wood slab
Hi there,
I'm totally new in this forum, I have no knowledge about wood or doing any projects with wood. I got a singer sewing machine cast iron frame which I have just restored few weeks ago, I want to put a wood slab on top of it and turn it into a small table, I don't mind uneven size at the edges of the wood slab which I think it looks nicer. However, what kind of wood slab should I put on it and where can I buy one? I'm at Victoria.
Sorry, if I post this in the wrong section, not sure where I should post this thread.
Thank you for reading.

What colour is your frame/ That will help determine the colour timber for the slab.

Victoria is a big place, an idea of location would be good so that we can recommend something within your area
Cheers

Ken Hanson 9755 1601
He is in Kallista and Ferny Creek. Has many slabs of everything you can think of. Native and European species harvested over the last 20 years in the gardens and parks of the Dandenong Ranges.
What wood to go for? One of the easier to work ones to start with I guess. Also depends on what tools you have on hand.
Do you want light or dark? Redish brownish or yellowish? Natural edged? Or all cut square?anne-maria.

Might be able to help you with flattening the slab at Knox Wood workers Workshop. Beyond that you just need snad paper and danish oil. And a couple of screws to attach it to the base.
Silky oak
Cypress pine. (I think Ken had some lebanon cypress)
Tulip wood. Has some interesting colour.
Oak (A bit heavy perhaps. )
Have a bit of a google.
Don't let Ken talk you into Japanese cedar.anne-maria.
