camphor laurel
Hi all,
I recently bought some timber from Eugene whose ad was on this forum.
Amongst the beautiful timber there was some camphor laurel boards and I fell in love with this wood. Not only for the smell which is beautiful but also the patterns.
I have started to make a cabinet with the camphor laurel but even if I have just enough to finish it, I won't have enough to build a matching dining table.
Is there anybody here who could tell me where I an find some camphor laurel in Melbourne ?
Much appreciated
Thanks

Will sell some but I'm not sure what its worth. How muck are you after and how much are you willing to pay? I could cut the log I have to order, it does dry quickly.

Hi Glenn,
Is it dried already or it has to dry ?
I am looking for dry camphor laurel since I am going to start to make a matching cabinet pretty soon
as for how much I am willing to pay, I don't know
I can tell you that the bought I bought recently from Eugene were $20 for a 2.14m long X 2.5 (I am assuming the original thickness is 1 inch) and 16cm wide
That's what I paid but since I have never seen this timber in a timber shop, I don't know

In the latest Australian Woodworker there is a Hydes Creek Woodworks in Bellingen NSW advertising Camphor Laurel for sale, they are in the classifieds area.
Edit -- Oh you wanted it in Melbourne, nevermind sorry :eek:Brett
Only Robinson Crusoe could get everything done by Friday!

If it is of use I looked at buying some camphor slabs recently and the going rate was about $2500 a cubic metre. But that was from around Coffs Harbour where the stuff grows like a weed. From Melbourne you would probably pay more. Like in the Eastern states Jarrah is 4x the price in WA.
Cheers
