Cape Lilac to be felled - interested in wood?
Just wondering if there would be any interest in wood from a cape lilac tree - roughly 30 years old and rather large tree (i.e. adult can not get arms around trunk).
We are thinking of having it removed and were wondering if anyone would be interested in taking the wood away (for free) - you would have to cut it and take it.

Its actually very beautifully grained timber. Burnsy from this site milled (onsite) a tree including the large branches for me last year. You should refrain from letting the tree feller just chip it.

The tree does not have to be felled asap, but some time in a couple of months. Is there a better time of year to do this? Do you know anyone who would be interested in the wood of the tree and and or interested in taking it down. I have spoken to several tree removal people and they say they haven't heard of anyone taking the wood. I don't mind getting a chipper for the clean up for the small branches.

You'll probably have to pay a tree fella to cut it down. Get the stump completly removed - not just poisoned - cause they will reshoot, its just like every seed they drop, they all want to grow. And then there's the catapillars, I suffered with 100's of the bloody things into everything for years, but all gone now,

Oh definitely. I would love the wood. It is my favourite and I have done three pieces in it now.
I would love to take the trunk off your hands and get it milled up for use in future years.
