Default Caustic bath to strip spotted gum floor boards -other options ?

    Hi
We have some lovely spotted gum floor boards (removed from a basketball court about 15 years ago) that we are planning to lay in house extension.
They are in good condition but need stripping.
We have got conflicting advice on using a caustic bath to remove the lacquer - some say that it is the only option given that the lacquer needs to be cleaned out of some tongue and grooves where it has seeped through.
Others that caustic bath is not recommended for hardwood and could damage the wood - impact on the colour etc.
Have not found much detail on the web about the detail of setting up a caustic bath for something like floorboards ( strength of solution needed etc)
Any advice (including possible alternatives) much appreciated.
    Thank you !

We sent our oregon panelled doors off to be caustic dipped and it ripped out so much of the colour we had to restain them again. Unless you are prepared to do this or live with a pale ghost of their former self then I wouldn't do it.

I doubt whether lacquer has been used on basketball court floorboards. It will either be two pack epoxy or similar. This is a pain to strip out but i can be done. I laid about 20 m^2 of wandoo boards that came from a classroom. I did roughly physically scrape out the tongue and groove and laid then with their original finish and then I sanded them it situ.

It was not as perfect at the grooves were not as tight as the original floor but i meant we retained the original colours.

not sure on the stripping side but i did see an amzing way to bring back the dead coulour on some timber it was shown to me by a local restorer
on a old delapitated cane chair all she used was napisan and steel scourer it worked so fast , a couple of rubs in either direction and it was back to new again , and i mean under 30 seconds for the area she did

I reckon you should just take the learned advice that you already got on the Reno forum from experienced floor type people
