Cedar Trees as Firewood - good or bad?
Can all trees be used for firewood? Or are there some that can "wreck" the chimney?
Sorry not very clear here, but we have just had some trees lopped and I want to know if I should bother keeping some of it for firewood. One of the loppers that gave us a quote said that they could wreck the chimney or something. The guys that are lopping the trees are leaving some for us to keep as firewood.
So I thought I should do my research and find out if the wood is okay to burn in a pot belly fireplace?
They are cedar trees, and one white gum.

For woodwork does it need to be treated?
I was wondering also if I could use some of the cedar logs as a garden border? Or does it it need to be treated?

ummmm where did he mention oleander?
As for your question Makky, if it is green, cut it or slab it, and use it for turning straight away, or else leave it to dry.
If it is good quaility, it will be a good source of timber.
Photos would help

Sun was really bright when I took these, so I couldn't see what I was taking. But here are some of the cedar logs. Will add the whitegum when camera recharges.

mmm are u crazy..
red cedar or even white cedar makes crap firwood cos it burns real quick a sits light with little density. iT will still burn but harder heavier woods make better firewood.
Stil if u r cold or hungry then any fire is a good fire..
cedar is better for woodworking and making cool things out of...
good luck

Macka,
don't burn green wood of any kind in your house fireplace, it will creat build up in your flue and you WILL get a flue fire hot enough to melt your flue right out of the roof. Make sure it's dry before you burn it.I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.
