Coconut wood
Whilst sniffing around the local timber shop in Jakarta I came across a few planks of coconut wood. Seems very heavy for the size but is probably very green.
I bought 3 planks - 1000x200x30 to give it a run. It only cost $7 so no big deal if its no good.
Does anybody have experience working with coconut (wood)? Is it easy to work? Does it warp, etc?
I've seen really small items made from it in souvenier shops but I was thinking of a DVD shelf or someting like that.
I also picked up some green (as in unseasoned) meranti, very rough cut. I'll see how that looks after a couple of months drying out in the garage.
Cheers,
Dan

Hi Snapper,
Just a cheap shot at radiata pine. Nothing grows under it (except magic mushrooms), it's pretty poor timber for cabinet work and I hate seeing miles of country under radiata forests.
On the other hand, I'd rather see it being used for framing timber than good hardwoods that could be put to better use by members of this forum
