Colour changes in Lignum Vitae?
Tonight I sliced'n'diced a smallish piece of Lignum Vitae, almost a jade green colour. 'Twas just big enough to slice up for two pen blanks and a lace bobbin, but I noticed the freshly cut (band-sawn) faces had changed to a yellowy-green colour. At the time I assumed that this is the "raw" colour and that UV or oxidation (ie. age & exposure) will turn this back to the jade green.
Then I drilled out the pen blanks... and the dust came out a bright mustard yellow! Does anybody know if these changes of colour are heat-related? ie. the hotter it gets, the yellower? Will the colour revert to green over time?
'Tis a hard, hard wood and I'm expecting it to end up hotter than usual when I turn the pen blanks and I don't really want yellow pens...
