    Default Custom Made Stirrups?

Im building a gazebo and i've decided to use 140 x 140 dressed kwila Posts ... Because they're untreated i'd like to use stirrups / anchors / supports, but for the life of me i cant find anything 140mm ...

Any ideas where i can get some (or get them custom made)?

    Thanks in advance ...

You could use 100mm stirrups and let them in to the posts, or you could use the round ones that the posts slide over, or the flat ones that fit in a groove in the post. Plenty of options.

140x140 Kwila posts will weigh a bit!

    Default How about this

I just had a thought ... Could i use a router and just take off a few mil from either side so it slides in ... I hope the attached image explains it ...

Any welding shop could make them to your dimensions.

You would need to have them made in stainless, or get them hot dipped galvanised, to stop rusting.

Getting them custom made is too hard (I dont have the time) ...

Im using 140 x 140 posts and the post anchors i have are only 50mm wide (not between sides) ... I hope that makes sense ...

Would it be a good idea to use 2 of them on the ends instead of 1 in the middle?

Like that, but i dont like the idea of having such a "thin" anchor with 140mm posts ...

Would 2 be a better idea?

That should work well - undoubtedly stronger than a single stirrup post. Some might question the aesthetics, because its different, not me.

Provided its embedded sufficiently in the concrete it probably not essential that the bottom be U-shaped - 2 separate vertical bars will eliminate the task of precision bending...If you wrap everything in plastic and gaffer tape before throwing concrete around it will make clean up a lot easier.

    Cheers

I like the gaffer tape idea ... Im sure that will help ...

Aesthetics aren't a big issue ... I plan on building a deck under the gazebo, so 90% of the anchor and bolts are covered ...

    Thanks for the help
