Cypress Pine???
Hi All,
I was at the local savage yard looking for some hoop pine boards for boat frames. They had some old 6 x 1 floor boards, at what I thought looked very much like hoop but I was informed by the owner that it was Cypress.
Does anyone know what Cypress pine is like for boat building and what its properties are. There is no listing for cypress pine in the Woods of Australia book but there are several listings for other types of Cypress.
Any help muchly appreciated
Michael.

They use it foor floor boards and building lining but it will split when nailing unless you use a gun. We have a verandah (boards) that has lasted for 18 years without even a finish (not my decision). I can't see that you could use it for boat building but could be mistaken.

Mcchaddy - Try googling on 'Callitris cypress timber' and you'll get quite a bit of info including the Aust Govt Bureau of Rural Sciences, whose web address won't paste properly, for some reason.
Cheers,IW
