    Cypress Pine for furniture

Recently I decided to build a document box for my mother in law....I looked around and decided to use Cypress.... I had just found some pieces of flooring with the most beautiful grain and as a bonus it's dirt cheap. I bought some 19mm thick tongue & groove boards and got them milled down to 12mm. from there I made the box and have been delighted with the results......Now my question is, why is Cypress not used more often for furniture... The only problem that I could find was the fact that it is reasonably brittle so I had to use sacrifical timber when routing the finger joints but every thing else seemed to be OK...... Is there going to be a problem in future or is Cypress just a timber out of favour for making joined items?

Does anyone out there have any idea?

My only question is.. HOW DID YOU GET HER TO FIT IN THE BOX????

I would love to build one for the wicked witch of the north west!
I try and do new things twice.. the first time to see if I can do it.. the second time to see if I like it

Well, naturally she had to go through the shredder first.

I have been using Cypress Pine for a number of projects - most recently for some TV/VCR stands. I have been buying C/P fence pickets. The timber joins well, using my biscuit joiner, and the finished items look really good when French polished.

    Doorstop,
I'm on the Darling Downs and this Cypress is everywhere. Whiteants(termites) won't touch it, and it's as common as.......
Many use it for fire wood.
Also It smells nice, whether working it or burning it.
I'm looking to finishing the setup of the workshop and make a start on some.
