Still doesn't tell us if it's green, seasoned or kiln dried. Cypress will crack no matter what you do it, but you can lessen it by using a good sealer and keeping it up. Sikkens gets good raves here for outdoor stuff and UV protection. Here's a search result on Sikkens stuff from here on the forum.

If the timber is shrink wrapped plastic, I would consider opening it on a cool evening that is going to be followed by some cool days as the timber will most likely still have moisture in it and will crack big time if opened on a hot day or in full sun.

How long will Cyrpess continus to crack and split for,
if there is no treatment what-so-ever?

It could still work out for me with Heavier Furniture,
    eg 4 x 4 or 5 x 5
and let it go through its "Ageing"
then Plane / square it up

Ivan, if its for indoors stuff it should be fine. It's when it's exposed to weather and fluctuating temperatures that you'll get the cracking happening.

Here is some pictures of a template that I turned about 4yrs ago, its 112mm square at the top and 700mm high, also this one has been sitting in my un-insulated shed. As you can see from the pictures, most of the cracks have come from where the knots are. I have turned other without knots and have had very minimal cracking, so small that once they were oiled you could hardly see them.
    Cheers
