Does anybody know...
Where I could get some rough sawn 120mm square verandah posts at 2.7m or a bit longer, in Perth WA. Need 5.
Not too fussed over treated or hardwood as they will be painted. Price not too much of an issue for the right post...
I'm renovating an 1890's timber cutters cottage in Jarrahdale. On one side the posts are all OK, the other side not so good. I'd REALLY like to have the two sides matching, just feels right.
All suggestions valued...

What are the existing good posts? What caused the failure, exposure/sunlight etc?

G'day David,
Have a look on Perth Gumtree or The Quokka, mostly are S/H but sometimes you can get new ones.
I have some S/H ones but not big enough for you. I picked these up from Gumtree, 10 posts & 20 beams for 2 slabs of Crown.

The failure
Time, originally placed in the 70s, when the cottage was moved to it's current locale.
That said though, some not too well placed retic kept the base of the posts damp most of the time. They were set directly onto the old verandah, so where they sat rotted out quite nicely. The old posts are 5x3" hardwood, and once I trim the rot off the foot the rest of the posts are still good, just too short to reuse.
The current good posts are on the other side of the cottage (a courtyard sort of setup now) and do not get wet apart from rain, and then not too much as they are under a roof.
I am confident whatever I place there now will not be ok in another 40 years..

If you are having hassle getting them you could try Steve McDonald "Woodmizer" in Dwellingup. 08 9538 1020
He has a mobile horizontal bandsaw & can cut to any size.
Had some boards ripped last year, great bloke & good prices.

Thanks to all for the feedback...
Graeme,
Yep they're too short for that. They were originally connected to the verandah and then to the beam supporting the roof rafters.
We've added 20mm fall over the 2m depth of the verandah, and raised the beam at the front edge. These two, plus the rotten bottoms, plus the verandah we need them for is 350mm off the ground means we're well short of that kind of solution.
However I have managed to contact "Danny's Firewood" in Pinjarra. As well the the firewood thing he mills timber. He has a few old dry-ish jarrahs lying around and will mill the posts for me at $30.00 plm. Bargain when I see the crap in the merchants at over $100.00 for the laminated hardwood (not in keeping) on the twisty turny treated at $90.00 ish...
Thanks to all for the help...
