Electric Bass Guitars
Hi
If anyone has information on any woods used for making Electric Bass Guitars that would be a great help.

Wood for bass
Bobish, you could do a lot worse than use ash, or alder, or poplar. There are quite a few ash timbers in aust, Claret ash, Victorian ash or you could get some imported woods from Gilet Guitars. They have a site for guitar makers / luthiers

Try Anagote timbers in Marrickville NSW, they have a good selection of suitable timber. There's even a helpful staff member (Tim) who makes electric guitars (and basses, I think) He could point you in the right direction. And they're way cheaper than Gilet's.

depend s on what u want from yr guitar
for australia stuff check out
www.maton.com.au
www.giletguitars.com.au for their luthiers supply list
an eaxmple of the cost for basic wood for a bass would be
solid body -Bass Wood (2 pieces) $66
neck - Rock Maple Bass $55
fingerbaord - Indian Rosewood $37
so its about 140 for the wood, u can get the neck slotted for another 22 buck but u gotta do all the machining, shaping, finsihng gluing etc..
then plus whatever for the bridge, net, tuners and pickups...
about 200 or so, and its 350 for the basic componenets of a quality instrument
http://www.scottwise.net/ has some nice basses, river bankisia and wandoo
and check noyces site
http://www.noyceguitars.com/Products...lphinbass.html
for his blackwood basses...
A standard config would be
basswood body
mahogany neck
rosewood fingerbord
better would be
blackwood body
qld maple neck
ebony finger baord
also check out www.stewmac.com
for bridges, pickups, tuners etc and stuff
plus
www.lmii.com
for international supplies
there are some cheap kits online...
hope this helps

G'day.
Gilet Guitars also have a small advert in the Classifieds in the Australian Woodworker mag. They list stuff for solid body & acoustic guitars.
Check out their web site for more info.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.
