English elm drying
Brainstrust I’m wanting to sense check with others that have more experience drying timber than I
I managed to grab some ancient English elm that came down in a storm in Canberra region. Ive managed to cut and stack it around 40-50mm thick internally to my shed up in Coffs Harbour around May this year and it was around 45% moisture content. I’ve just measured again and it’s about 12-15%
Does this sound right for approx 7 months drying? Or specifically drying for English elm since it’s not an Aussie hardwood?
Seems to me it’s good to use, I just wasn’t expecting it to dry this fast with no checking
Cheers
Nathan

Your ends and surfaces will read dry in short time. It's the middle of the stick that is important.
