    Default European Ash

    Hello all,

I have found a couple of lumps of European Ash or English Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) in Brisbane. which leads me to believe there could be more floating about.

American ash is pretty easy to come buy, most is grown quickly and highly kilned, im hoping that any european ash I find may be older and better.

im looking for long lengths over 6 ft and more than 2 inch square in width/height.

the European ash is different to american ash with the porous part of the grain being thinner, making it stronger than american ash.

if anyone has any knowledge of some please let me know, thanks.

    Steve.

Fraxinus is widely planted as an ornamental in Aus. Claret, common etc.

Suggest you call some arborists; get the stuff green if you can wait, and before it goes into a bl**dy chipper.

Thanks, however Fraxinus is relatively easy to come buy, its Fraxinus Excelsior that is the hard one, which is specifically european ash.

Two reasons its good, one its a better timber, and two there is a better chance it wasnt grown quick cut down green and dried out as much, it may have come from older trees. (eternal optimist ) )

AFAIK Frax. Exc. is Golden Ash, not 'european' Ash.
