    Default Red Mahogany info sought

    Hi,

I am about to start building an outdoor table that will be exposed to the elements. I was planning on building the top from Spotted Gum, however have heard that depending on the quality of the timber it can move around a fair bit.

I was speaking to one of the local recycled timber suppliers and they suggested using Red Mahogany. I have hadn't heard of it, however they said it will retain its colour longer and is nice and stable and still a class 1 timber with the added benifit of being cheaper.

I can't find much on the forums about it so was chasing down some opinions.

The the table top will be pretty simple, 185x38mm lengths on a steel base with 5mm gaps between each board.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Red Mahogany would serve very well in that application. The advice you have been given is quite correct.

Nothing wrong with RMY, above ground its as good a timber as any and better then most.

They'll all move around a bit or check if exposed to sunlight while still wet. You don't need KD, but you do need it reasonably dry for best results.
