Exterior Woodwork on house
Hello, I had a piece of wood on the side of my house (my house does not have eaves) which was rotted. I managed to use a Bosch Multitool with a wood blade to cut out the cancerous section, and I widened the gap to ensure success to around 140 (width of new treated pine piece) by 1050mm. I have then managed to screw a new piece into the house joists or whatever they are and all I need to do now is fill in the gap. The gap is around 1-2mm wide all around, like a rectangle. This side of the house gets some weather and I am not sure as to what product to use, I plan to paint over the filler to ensure a nice blending of the surrounding timber.
Google gives me mixed results, I was thinking something like Selleys Plasti-Bond or similar. This process could be thought of as replacing a piece of gyprock with another piece of gyprock then filling the gaps with interior filler, easy but I have never done it for the outside, Oregon rots is all I can say!!
Thanks,
Geoff

Plasti-bond or epoxy, but unless the wood has really dried out, there's a good chance you'll see the gap open up over time.

Based on what u have described I would tend to go for something more flexable like a sealant that is paintable (not any of the silicone sealants) mastic or such
