fair price for jarrah - old woodworker don't want to rip him off
I hope someone can help me. I have come across an old woodworker in the hills of Perth who has a some jarrah his family are trying to sell for him. I am very interested in some jarrah he has which is old wood from a train yard, not the best and not the worst, that is 4000mm x 245mm x 45 mm (also has some 6000mm). He does not know what it is worth and nor do I. I want to offer him a fair price as I don't want to take advantage of anyone. What is a reasonable offer to make that is fair for both of us?
Thanks in advance.

It would have been easier to guess with some photos, however, I don't think Jarrah is particularly expensive so maybe $3000/m³ if it's not so bad and $2500/m³ if it's not so good. Recycled floor boards go for about $3500/m³ I think?

Have a look on Gum tree to see going prices.
Make sure you compare apples with apples (take sizes into account)
Some GT prices are overinflated so maybe 2/3rd of GT prices?

Thanks all. I should have been clear with regard to:
1. Quality - not sure exactly but has been indoors and stickered for years.
2. the end use as it’s going to be used as stair treads for an outside deck. Kind of a feature to contrast with the more modern stone deck. also thinking of building table top out of the rest. I have attached some pictures which should help.

As above, $2500-3000 per cube is fair for rough sawn timber. I purchase most of my timber around that price point.

Are you 100% sure that is Jarrah, by looking at the face checking to me it could be Karri.
If you can get hold of a small sliver and burn it, Karri's ash turns white jarrah black.
