    Question Seeping Floor boards

    Hi,

I have recently purchased a house in the Blue Mountains which is about 40 yrs old. It has timber floor boards which have been covered for years. In certain areas of the floor, mainly next to the wall the timber appears to seep what can only be described as an oily residue.

The timber has no buckled and only rises in wet or humid conditions. In one area in particular it is a dark brown oil. I have investigated the joists and at certain points it appears to also weep this residue.

I have inspected the floor from below (as I have access) and the underside of the timber appears dry. I have also removed a small section and the timber seems structurally fine. IE Not termites. (Thank God)

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be.

    Cheers

    ???
HAve you checked the roof? something dripping?

Did the previous owner have an oil heater onver that spot that leaked?
    Is it new "oil"

    What is the timber?

    Photos will help?

Is the wall an outside wall and is the earth outside above the floor level? I would be having a look in that wall cavity to be sure.
