Finest wood endgrain ? Please read:)
I have a project that i urgently want to complete due to some very serious health issues. so any help is VERY much appreciated.
Iam toying with the idea of inlaying small shapes of wood into precious metals to create a jewellery piece.
I very much like redgum but iam not sure that it'll work of that sort of scale.
The only point that it will be visible is the end grain and it needs to be striking.
Iam talking oval/marquee shapes sized maybe around 2x6mm.
I love to endgrain affect of bamboo but perhaps not the color.
A red colored wood would be good but can anyone suggest any woods that may work regardless of the color. ?
Thank you.

I have some redgum cut across the grain and it is VERY striking. it is roughly 150mm x 150mm x approx 10mm. If you let me know your address and how much you want I'll send you some. If you want it bandsawn I can do that too.
CheersIf you never made a mistake, you never made anything!

coloring the wood
Perfect. Why the hell didnt i think of that.
ok i'll rephrase my question.
what do people think the best pale wood would be to dye it a redish color and get the maximum endgrain effect.
Thank you very much people.Art has now be-comeSim-ply an ex-cuse to sitIn the Sun . What Fun!BC-haiku
