    Post Fitting Weatherboards "How to"

Hi, I new here and very much a newbie when it comes to working with timber. I have a timber carport at our property which we purchased recently that has 1 side not built in with boards. There's a couple of issues I can see with the carport that will present some challenges,
    1. The floor of the carport has a gentle slope which goes from left to right along the exposed section.
    2. The concrete does not go all the way to where the boards need to go so the bottom board will need to touch soil.

Due to the sloped floor i'm thinking it may be easier to fit the boards from the top to the bottom and then when I reach the bottom with the slope and soil use a plinth made of treated pine and just paint it the same colour as the boards. Is it easy to fit weatherboards from the top down? I know my nails will be exposed.

    Cheers

Fit the plinth first and fix the boards from the bottom.

you cannot attach wheatherboards from the top down as they overlap on the top edge.

your boards should not touch the ground this is inviting rot and termites into the structure.

attach the bottom board and work up.

depending on what type of weatherboard you have will dictate whether you can lay from the top to the bottom, if you have splayed type WBs you cant, if they have a rebated bottom then you can, never have timber in contact with the ground unless its for stumps or similar & you can isolate by termite protection the rest of the structure if its attached to the house

also before doing any work check with surf coast shire as fairly sure you will need building permit if enclosing carport
