Impressive. How does it get this dark? Is it like the heart
    of the trunk?
    It really looks like Koa!

    Default Qld Maple

Qld Maple is maybe my favourite timber.
    It really pops.

This is a few of my projects.

My workshop doors get plenty of comments. Usually that it is a waste to make shed doors out of such beautiful timber.
Maybe it is but I feel good everytime I look at them.

I am just wondering where Red Cedar ended up on the list?

Those are impressive pieces of furniture. Too bad QLD Maple does not reach Italy!
I must notice, however, that a high chatoyance timber may be upsetting when you aim at bookmatching...!

Red cedar is not very high (with 18 PZC it is not in the first 30), although one sample yielded 28 PZC. This is the Red Cedar page on our website:
Cedar, Australian Red – PZC Chatometry

    Thanks everyone for the info

Paolo...the timber extracted from the Butt log was consistent in colour throughout
    As was the high figure
Worth noting that the tree was dead standing too
I believe the tannins within the log may have strongly influenced the colour...along with the natural cure.

Yes the aesthetics very similar to Koa
Here's more of the same...lovely stuff!
