Default Found in a pile of firewood

Trying to ID this timber, it was found in a pile of firewood with no idea of where it came other than from the Perth area

Have come across this prickly surface before, pretty sure it was one of the Banksias.

A fresh cut end may assist with ID. It appears to have a pronounced medullary ray feature, but difficult to say with any certainty what it might be.

Apparent density? Hardness? Smell? Feel (i.e. greasy, dry, waxy)? Will see what your turning produces.
