free standing stump - some sort of gumtree - BIG - south of Perth WA
Folks,
I started digging out this big bruiser of a tree stump when someone reckoned it was of value to woodies... if it is, you're welcome to it.
it is located about 25mins out of Mandurah, or 10 mins out of Pinjarra - roughly 1 hour south of Perth.
It was a big gumtree until I killed it off about 12-18 months ago - now it is a stump which stands around 4m tall, and around 800mm dia at the base. There is a few branches going off it (each a minimum of 300mm dia) but not for very long (longest would be 300mm from the main trunk)
The tree was killed but cutting the main limbs from it, then topping it (it posed a danger tot he house, powerlines, nieghbour... noone was safe - it was worse than a political promise) - then when the main trunk tried shooting, I drilled a couple of 5/8" holes in it, and filled them with straight roundup. - about 3 weeks later, the bark started falling off it in 1" thick slabs.
The tree has been dead for at least 9 months, and the bark all fell off it when it died. The exposed grain is tight and wavy, but there is some staining from the weather, and some small "wood worm" tracks from under the bark.
The root will be dug out to a depth of 1m, and the roots cut to tip this brute out of the ground (unless someone else offers to remove it by some other way)
there is some cracking at the exposed ends of the cuts, but the "fencing wire test" indicates they are about 40mm deep.
If someone wants this, I'm not charging anything for it - I just request one of the following;
a) offer to dig it out and take it away - that way you can keep the roots in whatever shape you want
b) if I dig it out, the roots will be cut where and how I can to get it out - you need to say how you want the trunk left
I hope to get it out by around Christmas (only put a few hours per weekend into it), but once it hits the ground - if it doesn't have a name on it, it will be blocked up for firewood, or disposal.
That's the offer - free wood - all you have to do is tell me what you want.
I can take a photo of the brute and post it if it helps.

I don't know what kind of gumtree it is/was - there is a closeup of the grain.

Des, That's a very awkward shape to mill so I'd say that unless you can get some turners interested unfortunately i'd say its fire wood.
