Gergangong timber- what is it?
Has anyone ever come across a Malaysian timber called Gergangong? Our local door manuafacturer is making my new front doors out of it, and I would like to know the characteristics of this wood, the hardness and especially the colour when coated with a clear polyeurathane.
He very strongly recommended an oil based cover coat. Anyone with any suggestions on this too, please, as the doors will be facing a strong western tropical sun.
regards,
Jill

I knew I'd used some Gerronggang at some stage.
Here's some pics of a box made with figured Gerronggang. It's been oiled with Scandinavian oil and finished with Traditional Wax.
The timber is nice to work with.

Thanks for the pictures, LGS. The timber looks really nice, and you have confirmed that it is easy to work with.
Neat looking box too. Well Done!

Jill
