    Default End Grain Treatment

I am sure that this subject must be covered here somewhere. I had a bit of a look and was getting sidetracked (Interesting forum this) so I decided to open the subject myself.

End grain sealing of green timber is almost a must. Some timbers split more than others, but in general all timber will split at the end grain.

I have been using BONDCRETE to seal the end of camphor laurel ( A big splitter) and silky oak before stickering them out to dry.

Many moons ago when I worked for a local electricity supply authority (The reason power is so dear these days is that they paid me out at what I was worth)...Only Joking. Back to the story, they used a grease called Presavax which came in a 10 pound tin.

The theory of end grain preservation is to cover the ends of the green slab and on the top and bottom up to 50mmm with some suitable substance that will not leave a permanent stain in the timber.

I spray the slab with borax acid mixed with water, sprayed form a garden sprayer for the bottom and top side of the timber before stacking.

Question: Who uses what, and Why? Where is it available?

Have a look at this thread, you will find all your questions answered.

A search on end grain sealer will find many more threads also.

Sorry KevM but the thread left all questions unanswered. I will not pay those prices as a hobbyist. I really wish to know what is a proven end grain preservative by those that have used the products.

I might direct my questions to Koppers Logs.

    Thanks
