Green wood!?!? No,... GREEN wood !!!
Just when ya think you've seen it all, up jumps another surprise to amaze ya!!! Read once where Dogwood was supposed to be very similar to Wilga but smelled like dogs pee so I never bothered looking for it. Spotted these bushes with the very attractive flowers and the mate decided to hit 'em with the Husky for a look. "Not worth the trouble!" says I, "twill be just bland white crud" . Could've knocked us both down with a feather GREEN wood - almost blue in fact. Not a huge bush but it will still produce a few amazing looking pens and odds and ends. What makes it even better is that the wood is beautifully aromatic, a bit like False Sandalwood - yummy - apparently it's only the leaves that smell like pi$$.
eremophila bignoniflora - AKA Creek Wilga, Gooramurra (for fellow woodophiles)

URK!
With the contrasting sap-wood and irregular form, I could see some bloody nice natural edged bowls coming from that! Small, perhaps, their Wow Factor would make up for that!

Very pretty. Is the timber spalted? Colour changed by fungal growth? Hazard.
how do I join up the shavings?

Get your license and go west young man! It can be found in the North-west quarter of NSW as well as most of Qld.
Not spalted - apparently the green streaks are not unusual in this species - think we might have struck it lucky with this particular one though. Hazard? - don't know - have never reacted to a timber and this one hasn't killed me either

hey now thats cool looking stuff well done guys. Ya never know whats inside those trunks hey. I wonder what it will look like dried and aged a bit ....mmmmm wouldnt mind a chunk for the sample collection...never ceases to amaze me what woods Qld turns up with...
on the green wood front a bloke down the road, Brett Dwyer recently was kind enough to give me some chunks his 80 year old father had collected but had given up turning cos of the dust and was getting rid of them..
in the pile was some very old grass tree root, xanthorea, makes a lot of green dust but whats left looks like snakeskin...similar texture to banksia pod but without the holes, most unusual wood i have tried for a while"I am brother to dragons, companion to owls"

Fingers crossed! I'm going to rough out a small bowl and nuke it on the weekend - I find that usually "fixes" the colour better.
There's not much of it that is big enough for much other than pens. It looks like it's going to split to the heart before it dries so even goblet-sized blanks will be rare. Should get a couple of small bowls and a box or two though A bit like conkerberry for recovery rate actually
'Drivers' Neil! Stirlo's just 15 and it's a bit far for the treadly
